  1. 1. CO2 mitigation in advanced power cycles

    Author : Jens Wolf; Jinyue Yan; Hongguang Jin; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Chemical engineering; chemical looping combusion; co2 capture; hydrogen production; trigeneration; co-generation; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis encompasses CO2 mitigation using three different processes: i) natural gas-fired combined cycle with chemical looping combustion (CLC), ii) trigeneration of electrical power, hydrogen and district heating with extended CLC, iii) steam-based gasification of biomass integrated in an advanced power cycle. In CLC, a solid oxygen carrier circulates between two fluidised-bed reactors and transports oxygen from the combustion air to the fuel; thus, the fuel is not mixed with air and an inherent CO2 separation occurs. 2. 2. Land use GHG emissions and mitigation options, simulated by CoupModel

    Author : Hongxing He; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : GHG; CO2; N2O; forest; drained peatland; clay soil; willow; soil nitrate leaching; modeling; CoupModel; GLUE; Land use; mitigation option; cost benefit analysis;

    Abstract : Climate change and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are one of the major challenges to the humankind of 21st Century. This thesis focuses on understanding, estimating and suggesting mitigation of the GHG emissions (mainly N2O and CO2) from the land use sector, specifically from forest ecosystems on drained peatlands but also from willow production on agricultural clay soil. 3. 3. Reducing Carbon Dioxide Emissions from the EU Power and Industry Sectors - An assessment of key technologies and measures

    Author : Johan Rootzén; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; industry; carbon dioxide; cement; European Union; technologies; emission reductions; CCS; power; steel; CO2; refining; mitigation;

    Abstract : In February 2011, the European Council reconfirmed the goal of reducing EU greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 2050, as compared to the levels in 1990. The power and industrial sectors currently account for almost half of the total GHG emissions in the EU. READ MORE

  4. 4. Climate change mitigation in China

    Author : Bo Xu; Ronald Wennersten; Kerstin Kuchta; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; China; Climate change mitigation; Environmental Kuznets Curve EKC hypothesis; Mitigation target; Business-as-usual BAU scenarios; Policy instruments;

    Abstract : China has been experiencing great economic development and fast urbanisation since its reforms and opening-up policy in 1978. However, these changes are reliant on consumption of primary energy, especially coal, characterised by high pollution and low efficiency. READ MORE
