  1. 1. Aetiologies and Epidemiology of Subdural Haematoma in Infancy

    Author : Jacob Andersson; Ingemar Thiblin; Håkan Sandler; Andreas Buettner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Abusive Head Trauma; Shaken Baby Syndrome; Subdural Haematoma; External hydrocephalus; Rättsmedicin; Forensic Medicine;

    Abstract : According to scientific studies, subdural haematoma (SDH) in combination with retinal haemorrhage and encephalopathy (usually denoted as the triad) during infancy is highly specific for abusive head trauma/shaken baby syndrome, if a fall from over one meter, a traffic accident and certain medical conditions have been excluded. Other studies have challenged this notion since there are witnessed falls from less than one meter which has caused acute SDH, birth-related SDH which have been confirmed to develop into chronic SDH, and external hydrocephalus that can be complicated by a spontaneous SDH or an SDH from minor trauma. 2. 2. Developing a Porcine Model to Study the Glymphatic System

    Author : Nicholas Bechet; Glia-Immune Interactions; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glymphatic system; cerebrospinal fluid; Porcine; in vivo imaging; amyloid beta; Alzheimer disease;

    Abstract : The glymphatic system is a brain-wide solute clearance system that has developed in the brain to clear metabolic waste during sleep. This clearance is mediated by advective fluxes of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) along perivascular spaces (PVS) and through the brain. READ MORE

  3. 3. Traumatic Brain Injuries: Animal Experiments and Numerical Simulations to Support the Development of a Brain Injury Criterion

    Author : Jacobo Antona; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; traumatic brain injuries; traffic safety; concussions; animal experiments; finite element method;

    Abstract : Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs) account for about half of the 1 300 000 annual traffic related deaths and the 50 000 000 injuries worldwide. The burden of TBI is ethically unacceptable and economically unsustainable. READ MORE
