  1. 1. Milk removal : effect on milk yield, milk composition and milking efficiency in dairy cows

    University dissertation from ; Department of Animal Nutrition and Management, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

    Author : Sabine Ferneborg; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet.; [2016]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Milk from dairy cows is a staple dietary component for humans all over the world. Regardless of whether milk is consumed in its purest, unaltered form or as high-end products such as fine cheese or ice cream, it needs to be of high quality when taken from the cow, produced at a low price and produced in a system that consider aspects such as animal health, animal welfare and sustainability. 2. 2. Genetic Heteroscedasticity for Domestic Animal Traits

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet

    Author : Majbritt Felleki; Högskolan Dalarna.; [2014]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantitative genetics; genetic heteroscedasticity of residuals; genetic heterogeneity of environmental variation; genetic heterogeneity of residual variance; double hierarchical generalized linear models; teat count in pigs; litter size in pigs; milk yield in cows; somatic cell count in cows; Komplexa system - mikrodataanalys;

    Abstract : Animal traits differ not only in mean, but also in variation around the mean. For instance, one sire’s daughter group may be very homogeneous, while another sire’s daughters are much more heterogeneous in performance. The difference in residual variance can partially be explained by genetic differences. READ MORE

  3. 3. Glycerol supplementation in dairy cows and calves

    University dissertation from ; Department of Animal Nutrition and Management, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

    Author : Anna Werner Omazic; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The production of biodiesel from rapeseed oil methyl ester leaves glycerol (synonym: glycerine, 1,2,3-propanetriol) as a valuable by-product and a promising feed supplement for farm animals. This thesis provides information about the supplemental feeding with glycerol to dairy cows in early lactation and to young calves, and describes the fate of glycerol entering the rumen and the impact of glycerol on enteric methane production and gastrointestinal microbial populations. 4. 4. Methane production in dairy cows : individual cow variability in methane production

    University dissertation from ; Department of Agricultural Research for Northern Sweden, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

    Author : Edward Hernando Cabezas Garcia; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet.; [2017]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Enteric methane (CH4) emissions vary between individual cows, and this variation is attributed to both animal and dietary factors. In addition, measurement technique of in vivo CH4 emissions from individual animals still represents a major challenge for successful emissions mitigation strategies. READ MORE
