  1. 1. Mitochondria in Alzheimer's Disease : The Presequence Protease and Mitochondria-Associated ER Membranes

    Author : Catarina Moreira Pinho; Elzbieta Glaser; Paolo Bernardi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alzheimer s Disease; Mitochondria; Mitochondria-associated ER membranes; human Presequence Protease; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is one of the most prevalent age-related neurodegenerative disorders and the accumulation of the amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) in the temporal lobe has been implicated in the pathology of AD. Synaptic transmission in neuronal cells is a highly energy dependent process, which relies on the presence and proper function of mitochondria. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mitochondria and Human Evolution

    Author : Max Ingman; Ulf Gyllensten; Peter Underhill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; mitochondria; hominidae; human evolution; population genetics; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Genetics; genetik;

    Abstract : Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) has been a potent tool in studies of the evolution of modern humans, human migrations and the dynamics of human populations over time. The popularity of this cytoplasmic genome has largely been due to its clonal inheritance (in Man) allowing the tracing of a direct genetic line. READ MORE

  3. 3. Dual targeting of glutathione reductase to mitochondria and chloroplasts

    Author : Charlotta Rudhe; Elzbieta Glaser; Ralf Bernad Klösgen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dual targeting; mitochondria; chloroplasts; import; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : As a consequence of the presence of both mitochondria and chloroplasts in plant cells there is a higher sorting requirement in a plant cell than that in a non-plant cell. Reflecting this, protein import to mitochondria and chloroplasts has been shown to be highly specific. READ MORE

  4. 4. PresequenceProtease (PreP), a novel Peptidasome in Mitochondria and Chloroplasts : Localization, Function, Structure and Mechanism of Proteolysis

    Author : Shashi Bhushan; Elzbieta Glaser; Johannes Herrmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein import; mitochondria; chloroplasts; PresequenceProtease; Alzheimer; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The information for mitochondrial and chloroplastic protein import and targeting generally resides in the N-terminal part of the protein, called a targeting peptide. The targeting peptide is cleaved off by the organellar processing peptidases after import of a precursor protein. READ MORE

  5. 5. Protein phosphorylation in plant mitochondria

    Author : André Struglics; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; FoF1-ATPase; autophosphorylation; protein kinase activity; protein phosphorylation; Plant mitochondria; inner mitochondrial membrane; NDPK; Physiological biophysics; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Protein phosphorylation in the subcompartments of plant mitochondria was investigated by labelling with [gamma-32P]ATP and by SDS-PAGE/autoradiography. About 20 proteins in inside-out inner mitochondrial membranes from potato tubers were phosphorylated by endogenous protein kinases when incubated with [gamma-32P]ATP. READ MORE
