  1. 1. Power System Oscillations - Detection, Estimation and Control

    University dissertation from Department of Industrial Electrical Engineering and Automation, Lund Institute of Technology

    Author : Morten Hemmingsson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2003]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Elektroteknik; oscillation; power system; damping; power swing; distance protection; detection; estimation; real-time; reactive co-variation; control; Electrical engineering; load modulation; Automation; robotics; control engineering; Automatiska system; robotteknik; reglerteknik;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is the electro-mechanical oscillations which to some extent always are present in a power system. The demand of electric power is ever increasing. At the same time, the tolerance of disruptions in the power supply is decreasing. READ MORE

  2. 2. Informed System Protection

    University dissertation from Ronneby : Blekinge Institute of Technology

    Author : Per Mellstrand; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola.; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Critical Infrastructures; Software Protection; In-depth Defense; Run-time Defense;

    Abstract : Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and Critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIIP) are high-priority research areas in several international R&D efforts. There are different types of critical infrastructures, from physical such as the electrical power grid to virtual such as the Internet and other communication networks. READ MORE

  3. 3. Identifying critical components for system reliability in power transmission systems

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Johan Setréus; KTH.; [2011]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transmission system reliability; component reliability importance index; Great Britain power system; power flow analysis; system adequacy; system security; system vulnerability;

    Abstract : Large interruptions of power supply in the transmission system have considerable impact on modern society. The goal for the transmission system operator (TSO) is to prevent and mitigate such events with optimal decisions in design, planning, operation and maintenance. READ MORE

  4. 4. Steady State Operation and Control of Power Distribution Systems in the Presence of Distributed Generation

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Ferry Viawan; [2006]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; distance protection; stochastic assessment; voltage dip; line drop compensation; distribution systems; on-load tap changer; overcurrent protection; sensitive equipment; voltage dip immunity; voltage control; short circuit; reactive power control; pilot protection.; protection coordination; protection; Distributed Generation; losses;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the impact of distributed generation (DG) on steady state operation and control of power distribution systems is investigated. Over the last few years, a number of factors have led to an increased interest in DG schemes. DG is gaining more and more attention worldwide as an alternative to large-scale central generating stations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Differential Protection for Arbitrary Three-Phase Power Transformers

    University dissertation from Department of Industrial Electrical Engineering and Automation, Lund Institute of Technology

    Author : Zoran Gajic; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2008]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electric power systems; power transformers; differential protection; power system protection;

    Abstract : This thesis describes how to provide standardized, current based, differential protection for any three-phase power transformer, including phase-shifting transformers with variable phase angle shift and transformers of all construction types and internal on-load tap-changer configurations. The use of standard transformer differential protection for such applications is considered impossible in the protective relaying standards and practices currently applied. READ MORE
