  1. 1. Mitochondrial differentiation during the early development of the amphibian embryo

    Author : Lennart Nelson; Barbara Cannon; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amphibia; Xenopus laevis; Ambystoma mexicanum; mitochondria; differentiation; enzymes; carriers; oxidation; development; Zoophysiology; zoofysiologi;

    Abstract : Mitochondria from Xenopus laevis and Ambystoma mexica- num embryos between fertilization and the beginning of feeding were studied: the former with respect to metabolic behaviour, enzyme pattern and carrier activity, and the latter with respect to morphological parameters.The metabolic behaviour of mitochondria was studied by assessing the rates of oxygen uptake in presence of various substrates. 4. 4. Teleost reproduction: Aspects of Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) oocyte growth and maturation

    Author : Håkan Berg; Per-Erik Olsson; Birgitta Norberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoophysiology; Salmonid; oocyte growth; vitellogenin; vitelline envelope protein; stress; cortisol; oocyte maturation; membrane receptor; Zoofysiologi; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; Zoophysiology; zoofysiologi;

    Abstract : In all vertebrate species, reproduction is a hormonally controlled process, important for growth and maturation of gonads and germ cells. Production of functional germ cells is of outmost importance to secure the survival of a species. Fish comprises 50% of the known vertebrates and are found in aquatic habitats all over the world. 5. 5. Adrenergic signaling in insulin-sensitive tissues

    Author : Daniel L. Yamamoto; Tore Bengtsson; Barbara Cannon; Michael Cawthorne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; Adrenergic; Glucose; Signaling; Skeletal muscle; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; zoofysiologi; Zoological physiology;

    Abstract : Glucose metabolism in insulin-sensitive tissues such as skeletal muscle and adipose tissue is tightly regulated by external stimuli. Metabolic changes in these tissues have direct effects on whole body metabolism. Such metabolic changes can be induced or influenced by adrenergic stimulation. READ MORE
