  1. 1. Intestinal adaption in response to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery

    Author : Erik Elias; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; obesity; bariatric surgery; proteomic analysis; intestinal permeability; calcium; bone mineral density; lipid metabolism;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT Background: Obesity is a condition with increasing prevalence that leads to morbidity, decreased quality of life and reduced life expectancy. The only effective evidence-based treatment is bariatric surgery. READ MORE

    Abstract : Biochar – the carbon rich residue derived from biomass pyrolysis – is recognised as a potential solution to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, while simultaneously delivering socio-environmental benefits through biochar use as a material. Perceived as a sustainable innovation, biochar has raised interest throughout the world. READ MORE

  3. 3. Functional and structural properties of eukaryotic DNA polymerase epsilon

    Author : Olga Chilkova; Erik Johansson; Per Elias; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; eukaryotic DNA replication; DNA polymerase epsilon; protein-DNA interaction; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : In eukaryotes there are three DNA polymerases which are essential for the replication of chromosomal DNA: DNA polymerase alpha (Pol alpha), DNA polymerase delta (Pol delta) and DNA polymerase epsilon (Pol epsilon). In vitro studies of viral DNA replication showed that Pol alpha and Pol delta are sufficient for DNA replication on both leading and lagging DNA strands, thus leaving the function of Pol epsilon unknown. 4. 4. Structural and biochemical basis for the high fidelity and processivity of DNA polymerase ε

    Author : Rais Ahmad Ganai; Erik Johansson; Per Elias; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA polymerase ε; Crystal structure; P domain; Pre-steady state kinetics; β-hairpin loop; Primer switching; Strand displacement; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : DNA polymerase epsilon (Pol ε) is a multi-subunit B-family DNA polymerase that is involved in leading strand DNA replication in eukaryotes. DNA Pol ε in yeast consists of four subunits, Pol2, Dpb2, Dpb3, and Dpb4. Pol2 is the catalytic subunit and Dpb2, Dpb3, and Dpb4 are the accessory subunits. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biochemical analysis of Pfh1, the essential Pif1 family helicase in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

    Author : Jani B. Mohammad; Nasim Sabouri; Erik Johansson; Per Elias; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; G4; Pfh1; Genome integrity; helicase; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : DNA stores the genetic information of all living organisms, and this information needs to be copied accurately and passed on to each daughter cell when a cell divides. However, the DNA replication machinery often meets obstacles in the genome that cause fork pausing and might result in DNA damage. READ MORE
