  1. 1. Complex Networks : Structure, Function , Evolution

    Author : Ala Trusina; Petter Minnhagen; Kim Sneppen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Complex systems; network topology; evolution; information spread; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik;

    Abstract : A complex system is a system for which the statement "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" holds. A network can be viewed as a backbone of a complex system. READ MORE

  2. 2. Computational Studies of Electron Transport in Nanoscale Devices

    Author : Henrik Löfås; Rajeev Ahuja; Jan Isberg; Fabian Pauly; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; Density functional theory; Molecular electronics; Organosilicon chemistry; Diamond; Molecular switches; Nanoelectrode bridge platform; Molecular cords; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics;

    Abstract : In this thesis, a combination of density functional theory (DFT) based calculations and nonequilibrium Green’s functions are employed to investigate electron transport in molecular switches, molecular cords and nanoscale devices.  Molecular electronic devices have been proposed as an approach to complement today’s silicon based electronic devices. 3. 3. Crowded Field Photometry and Luminosity Function Analysis as Probes of Galactic Evolution

    Author : Ralph Snel; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; observational; Methods: data analysis; statistical - Techniques: photometric - Stars: luminosity function; imaging; evolution - Galaxies: stellar content; mass function; space research; cosmic chemistry; Astronomi; rymdvetenskap; kosmisk kemi; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Snel;

    Abstract : Crowded field photometry is a powerful method to investigate stellar evolutionary processes in astrophysically interesting regions such as nearby external galaxies and globular cluster cores. While detectors are approaching the physical limits for photon detection, data analysis methods for crowded stellar fields are not yet equally sophisticated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Statistical and Dynamical Aspects of Intermediate Energy Nuclear Collisions

    Author : Roberta Ghetti; Fysiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; excitation function.; subthreshold pions; pion production; neutron cross-talk; correlation function; interferometry; intermittency; phase transition; thermal scaling; reducibility; multifragmentation; Heavy ion collisions; intermediate energy; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Ghetti;

    Abstract : Studies of intermediate energy heavy ion reactions have revealed the existence of a number of reducibility and thermal scaling properties in nuclear multifragmentation. In particular, the probability of emitting n-fragments is reducible to the probability of emitting a single fragment through the binomial distribution. READ MORE

  5. 5. Model Vertices Beyond the GW Approximation

    Author : Mikael Hindgren; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; thermodynamics; statistical physics; gravitation; GW approximation; Electron self energy; Green s function; consistency; local-field corrections; vertex function; conserving approximations; variational energies; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; classical mechanics; relativity; quantum mechanics; klassisk mekanik; kvantmekanik; relativitet; statistisk fysik; termodynamik; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Hindgren;

    Abstract : We study the effects of local vertex corrections to the self energy of the electron gas. We find that a vertex derived from time-dependent density-functional theory can give accurate self energies without including the explicit time dependence of the exchange-correlation potential provided, however, that a proper decay at large momentum transfer (large q) is built into the vertex function.
