  1. 1. Functional study of Nucleoporins Nup88 and Nup214 during Drosophila Development

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Wenner-Grens institut för experimentell biologi

    Author : Nikos Xylourgidis; Stockholms universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mbo; Nup88; CAN; Nup214; NPC; CRM1; embargoed; NF-kB; REL; Dorsal; Dif; Drosophila; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Organism biology Developmental biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Organismbiologi Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : More than a million macromolecules per minute pass through the nuclear envelope of a eukaryotic cell. An important challenge is to understand how the NPC coordinate efficiently the bi-directional trafficking necessary for the basal cellular activities and the rapid translocation of regulatory proteins in response to signaling. 4. 4. MEKK-1 and NF-κB Signaling in Pancreatic Islet Cell Death

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Dariush Mokhtari; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease resulting in the selective destruction of the insulin producing β-cells in the pancreas. Pro-inflammatory cytokines and the free radical nitric oxide (NO) have been implicated in mediating the destruction of β-cells, possibly through activation of the mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) JNK, ERK and p38. 5. 5. Morphologican and functional studies on the Drosophila neuromuscular system during postembryonic stages

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Zoologiska institutionen

    Author : Ana Beramendi; Stockholms universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Drosophila; neuromuscular system; Rel-proteins; fly brain; rhythmic morphology; aging; ; MEDICINE Physiology and pharmacology Physiology Neurobiology; MEDICIN Fysiologi och farmakologi Fysiologi Neurobiologi;

    Abstract : The nervous system of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster has emerged as an excellent model for fundamental neuroscience as well as for biomedical research of human neurological diseases. In this thesis, two aspects of the neuromuscular system have been investigated: the role of the IkB-protein Cactus in the larval neuromuscular junction and the morphology of motor terminals throughout adult life.
