1. Numerical Conformal Mappings for Waveguides
Abstract : Acoustic or electro-magnetic scattering in a waveguide with varying direction and cross-section can be re-formulated as a two-dimensional scattering problem, provided that the variations take place in only one dimension at a time. By using the so-called Building Block Method, it is possible to construct the scattering properties of a combination of scatterers when the properties of each scatterer are known. READ MORE

2. Some Applications of Variational Inequalities in Mathematical Finance and Numerics
Abstract : This thesis contains two parts. The first part deals with a stochastic impulse control problem, subject to the restriction of a minimum time lapse in between interventions made by the controller. We prove existence of an optimal control and show that the value function of the control problem satisfies a system of quasi-variational inequalities. READ MORE

3. Assessment and differential diagnosis in childhood apraxia of speech
Abstract : Introduction and aims: Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a disorder of speech motor planning and programming affecting the ability to transform the linguistic code into movements needed for intelligible speech. CAS is difficult to differential diagnose from other speech sound disorders (SSDs) and the diagnostic procedure involves many decisions based on outcomes from assessments before arriving at the appropriate diagnosis/es. 4. Analysis of Complex Biological Samples using Liquid Chromatography-Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry
Abstract : Studies of protein and peptide expression are vital in order to understand complex biological systems. As demonstrated in this thesis, on-line packed capillary liquid chromatography-Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (LC-FTICR MS) is a useful analytical tool for such studies. 5. Mathematical Analysis of Forced Convective Flow Due to Stretching Sheet and Instabilities of Natural Convective Flow
Abstract : The investigations presented in the thesis are theoretical studies of magnetohydrodynamic flows, heat and mass transfer in Newtonian/non-Newtonian cooling liquids, due to horizontal/vertical stretching sheet. The theoretical studies include the effect of magnetic field, uniform and non-uniform heat source/sink (flow and temperature dependent heat source/sink) effects. READ MORE
