  1. 1. Modeling Auto-Ignition, Flame Propagation and Combustion in Non-Stationary Turbulent Sprays

    Author : Anders Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; auto-ignition; transient; flame propagation; turbulence; spray formation; prediction; stirred reactor approximation; model; reduced chemistry; combustion;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on detailed numerical studies of spray formation, auto-ignition, envelope flame development and combustion in a simple two-dimensional axi-symmetric geometry. A Lagrangian -- Eulerian formulation is used to analyze the droplet motion and gas flow field. READ MORE

    Abstract : Today, the growing and aging population, and the rise of new global threats on human health puts an increasing demand on the healthcare system and calls for preventive actions. To make existing medical treatments more efficient and widely accessible and to prevent the emergence of new threats such as drug-resistant bacteria, improved diagnostic technologies are needed. 3. 3. Analysis and Control of Continuous Microaerobic Ethanol Production by Yeast

    Author : Carl Johan Franzén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nitrogen limitation; ethanol; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; glycerol; metabolic flux analysis; oxygen limitation; stoichiometric model; yeast physiology; RQ control;

    Abstract : Glucose fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and xylose fermentation by Candida utilis and Pichia stipitis, were investigated under microaerobic conditions. A dynamic experimental method named oxygen programmed fermentation (OPF), and a method for microaerobic RQ control in continuous culture have been developed. READ MORE

  4. 4. First step to a genomic CALPHAD database for cemented carbides : C-Co-Cr alloys

    Author : Zhou Li; Malin Selleby; Jana Pavlu; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CALPHAD; Einstein model; two-state model; compound energy formalism; thermodynamic description; C-Co-Cr; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagrams) denotes the methodology used to assess thermodynamic data based on experiments as well as on first principles calculations. Essential for this method is the coupling of phase diagram and thermodynamic properties. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modeling and Model-based Control of Automotive Air Paths

    Author : Robin Holmbom; Lars Eriksson; Daniel Jung; Christopher Onder; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The strive towards cleaner and more efficient combustion engines, driven by legislation and cost, introduces new configurations, as exhaust gas recirculation, turbocharging, and variable valve timing, to name a few. Beside all the positive effects on the emissions and fuel consumption, they all affect the air-charge system, which increases the cross-couplings within the air-path control, making it an even more complex system to control.
