  1. 6. Mechanisms of Ischemic Brain Injury- studies in murine hippocampal slice cultures

    Author : Anna Rytter; Sektion IV; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neuropsychology; Neurology; adenosine; caspases; hypothermia; in vitro; hippocampus; ischemia; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Cerebral ischemia is a major cause of mortality and morbidity in the western world. Even though much effort has been put into research and development of effective drugs against ischemic damage there is to date no effective pharmacological brain protective treatment. READ MORE

  2. 7. The Role of the Cortico-Basal Ganglia-System in Voluntary Movements

    Author : Martin Tamté; Integrativ neurofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurophysiology; Electrophysiology; Pharmacology; Motor Systems; Voluntary movements; Philosophy; In vivo; Corticostriatal; Parkinson s disease; Dyskinesia; Levodopa; Multiple Electrode Arrays;

    Abstract : Bodies with multiple limbs and joints have endless possibilities to move around in their surrounding space. How the nervous system controls this amount of degrees of freedom in motor execution is a question under vigorous debate. READ MORE

  3. 8. The role of cortico-basal ganglia systems in the construction of movement: Action selection and sequencing

    Author : Joel Sjöbom; Integrativ neurofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurophysiology; Electrophysiology; Voluntary movements; In-vivo; Motor Cortex; Corticostriatal; Basal Ganglia;

    Abstract : The cortico-basal ganglia system is instrumental in the construction of movement, through its involvement in aspects such as action selection, initiation/termination and sequencing, though the precise role of the different structures and how they collaborate on a network level to allow us to fluidly change from one behavior to another has long proven to be elusive.We have here recorded neuronal activity throughout the cortico-basal ganglia circuit in rats, in a series of projects in order to understand more about how some of these functions are controlled. 4. 9. Stroke in geriatric patients - Aspects of depression, cognition and motor activity

    Author : Berit Agrell; Geriatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; stroke; laterality; rating scales; motoractivity; aphasia; neglect; disability; depression; cognition; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Six depression rating scales, GDS, Zung, CES-D, CPRS-D and Cornell, were compared in 40 patients. The validity was good for all scales except for the Cornell scale. A comprehensive investigation was done in 116 elderly stroke patients. There was no difference in prevalence and severity of post-stroke depression in relation to side of lesion. READ MORE

  5. 10. Vibration-induced neuropathy in the hand

    Author : Trygve Strömberg; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; orthopaedics; Surgery; vibrotactile sense.; vibration; Schwann cells; Raynaud’s phenomenon; peripheral neuropathy; pathology; neurone; nerve fibres; muscular weakness; hand; Carpal tunnel syndrome; cold intolerance; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to investigate clinical, pathophysiological and structural aspects of vibration-induced peripheral neuropathy since work with hand-held vibrating tools may lead to progressive neurological and vascular hand symptoms. Symptomatic vibration-exposed men were examined clinically and by neurography, tactilometry, and vibrometry and by measurement of temperature perception thresholds. READ MORE
