  1. 1. Low Secondary Electron Yield Carbon Coatings for Electron Cloud Mitigation in Modern Particle Accelerators

    Author : Christina Yin Vallgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Raman spectroscopy; NRA; amorphous carbon; secondary electron yield; LIU; X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; SEY; AFM; electron cloud; SPS dipole magnet;

    Abstract : In order to upgrade the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) performance to be oriented towards higher energies and higher intensities in the future, a series of improvementsof the existing LHC injectors is planned to take place over the next few years. Electron cloud effects are expected to be enhanced and play a central role in limiting theperformance of the machines of the CERN complex. READ MORE

  2. 2. Towards Single Molecule Imaging - Understanding Structural Transitions Using Ultrafast X-ray Sources and Computer Simulations

    Author : Carl Caleman; Janos Hajdu; Richard Neutze; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular biophysics; XFEL; Ultrafast Melting; InSb; Molecular Dynamics; Water Cluster; Evaporation; Secondary Electron; Photo-cathode; Electron Scattering; Energy Loss Function; Single Particle Imaging; X-ray Diffraction; Water; Ice; KI; CsI; Molekylär biofysik;

    Abstract : X-ray lasers bring us into a new world in photon science by delivering extraordinarily intense beams of x-rays in very short bursts that can be more than ten billion times brighter than pulses from other x-ray sources. These lasers find applications in sciences ranging from astrophysics to structural biology, and could allow us to obtain images of single macromolecules when these are injected into the x-ray beam. 4. 4. Impact of Secondary Interactions in Asymmetric Catalysis

    Author : Anders Frölander; Christina Moberg; Gerard van Koten; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; asymmetric catalysis; secondary interaction; hydrogen bond; chiral ligand; allylic alkylation; hydrosilylation; cyanation; pymox; box; PHOX; pybox; palladium; iridium; rhodium; Lewis acid; Lewis base; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with secondary interactions in asymmetric catalysis and their impact on the outcome of catalytic reactions. The first part revolves around the metal-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation reaction and how interactions within the catalyst affect the stereochemistry. READ MORE

  5. 5. Towards ultrafast imaging with extreme ultraviolet light sources

    Author : Jörg Schwenke; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photo emission electron microscopy; Focusing of X-ray radiation; Digital holography; High-order harmonic generation; Free-electron laser seeding; Secondary electron cascades; Fysicumarkivet A:2012:Schwenke;

    Abstract : This thesis reports experimental studies performed with two advanced coherent XUV sources with ultrashort pulse duration, high-order harmonic generation and seeded-free electron laser. High-order harmonic generation (HHG) is the generation of overtones of a fundamental laser pulse in a medium, e.g. noble gases. READ MORE
