  1. 1. Transition metal dissolution from Li-ion battery cathodes

    Author : Yonas Tesfamhret; Reza Younesi; Erik J. Berg; Mark Huijben; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lithium-ion battery; Lithium-ion cathode; Transition metal dissolution; Atomic Layer Deposition; Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy; Cathode-electrolyte interaction; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have become reliable electrochemical energy storage systems due to their relative high energy and power density, in comparison to alternative battery chemistries. The energy density of current LIBs is limited by the average operating voltage and capacity of oxide-based cathode materials containing a variety of transition metals (TM). READ MORE

  2. 2. Study on the Mechanisms for Corrosion and Hydriding of Zircaloy

    Author : Magnus Oskarsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Zircaloy; Zirconium alloys; Oxidation; Oxide layer; Pre-Transition; Hydriding; Pre-Hydrided; Hydrides; Lithium Hydroxide LiOH ; Lithiated water; Dissolution; Cross sectional TEM;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on the mechanisms for corrosion andhydriding of Zircaloy. Special attention is paid tomicrostructural characterisation by cross sectionaltransmission electron microscopy of the oxide layer formed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fluid-rock interaction in two seismically active areas : The Tjörnes Fracture Zone, northern Iceland and the Shillong Plateau, northeastern India

    Author : Lillemor Claesson; Alasdair Skelton; Steven Ingebritsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Tjörnes Fracture Zone; Shillong Plateau; Iceland; India; hydrogeochemical monitoring; earthquakes; geothermal; transition metals; dissolution; basalt; feldspar weathering; source switching; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : Hydrogeochemical monitoring can improve our understanding of fluid-rock interaction, and may detect anomalies that are precursory to- or caused by- earthquakes. In this study, hydrogeochemical monitoring was carried out in two distinct tectonic settings, to study coupling between hydrogeochemical changes and seismic activity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Electronic Transport in Strained Materials

    Author : Thomas Dziekan; Susanne Mirbt; Olle Eriksson; Per Hyldgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physics; Conductivity; Strain; Transport; Boltzmann theory; Transition metal; Hydrogen loading; Electronic structure; Density functional theory; Bulk material; Multilayer; Fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis the conductivity of strained materials has been investigated using density functional theory and a semiclassical transport theory based on the Boltzmann equation.In transition metals trends are reproduced without adjustable parameters. READ MORE

  5. 5. Theoretical studies of boron and transition-metal carbonitride additions in steels

    Author : Dan Fors; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electronic structure; Dislocation network; Interfaces; Peierls-Nabarro model; Density functional theory; Steels; Coarsening; Diffusion; Misfit; Precipitates;

    Abstract : Martensitic 9-12%Cr steel alloys are today widely used as critical components in fossil-fired steam power plants with steam temperatures up to 600°C, where sound oxidation resistance and excellent creep strength are required. Their strength and long-term creep resistance are closely connected to the presence and stability of Cr-rich M23C6 (M = Cr, Fe) carbides and densely distributed MX precipitates (M = transition metal, X = C or N), which effectively act as obstacles for dislocation migration.
