  1. 31. Interactions between staphylococci, heparin, heparin dependent growth factors and biomaterials

    Author : Corina Fallgren; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; and biomaterials bonded with antibiotics; heparin-binding growth factors; staphylococci; heparin; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Resident skin micro-organisms such as S. epidermidis and other coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS), are by far the most common causes of biomaterial-associated infections. These micro-organisms often exhibit surface adhesins that specifically bind serum and tissue proteins adsorbed to implanted biomaterials. READ MORE

  2. 32. Urinary tract infections in primary health care in northern Sweden : epidemiological, bacteriological and clinical aspects

    Author : Sven Ferry; Bengt Mattsson; Lars Burman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urinary tract infection UTI ; primary health care PHC ; epidemiology; clinical presentation; bacteriuria diagnosis; bacteriology; drug resistance; therapy;

    Abstract : The epidemiology of urinary tract infection (UTI) in the population of Vännäs (8 000 inhabitants) was studied during one year. The annual incidence increased from 0.5% in the first decade of life to more than 10% in the age group 90-100 years. READ MORE

  3. 33. Genital human papillomaviruses. Studies of their occurrence, type spectrum and expression

    Author : Ola Forslund; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mRNA expression; microwell; HPV 70; type determination; CIN; quantification; urine; multifocal infections; hybridization; PCR; HPV; human papillomavirus; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : The occurrence of genital human papillomavirus infection was determined in different categories of patients by means of PCR. In high proportion of young women attending an adolescent clinic, the presence of HPV DNA was demonstrated in simultaneously urethral and cervical samples, suggesting that genital HPV infections are often multifocal. Abstract : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most common infections in man. Despite their prevalence, information on the molecular mechanisms defects that explain the increased susceptibility to disease are lacking. READ MORE

  5. 35. Evolutionary and functional studies of protein H: a surface molecule of Streptococcus pyogenes

    Author : Inga-Maria Frick; Infektionsmedicin; []

    Abstract : Several bacterial species express surface proteins with affinity for the Fc part of human IgG. This thesis describes evolutionary and functional studies of protein H, an IgGFc-binding surface protein of the human pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes. READ MORE
