  1. 11. Transcriptional and epigenetic control of gene expression in embryo development

    Author : Ann Boija; Mattias Mannervik; Jerry L. Workman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Epigenetics; Cell specification; Drosophila embryo; Dorsal morphogen; CBP p300; Gene regulation; Chromatin; Promoter proximal Pol II pausing; utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Abstract : During cell specification, temporal and spatially restricted gene expression programs are set up, forming different cell types and ultimately a multicellular organism. In this thesis, we have studied the molecular mechanisms by which sequence specific transcription factors and coactivators regulate RNA polymerase II (Pol II) transcription to establish specific gene expression programs and what epigenetic patterns that follows. 2. 12. The Histidine-rich Glycoprotein in Reproduction

    Author : Karin E Lindgren; Inger Sundström-Poromaa; Helena Åkerud; Eva Wiberg-Itzel; Lalit Kumar Parameswaran Grace; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; embryo culture medium; embryogenesis; embryonic secretome; endometrium; histidine-rich glycoprotein; human embryo development; human embryo implantation; human endometrial endothelial cells; in vitro fertilisation; infertility; male infertility; proximity extension assay; recurrent miscarriage; single nucleotide polymorphism; sperm quality; time-lapse technique; vascular endothelial growth factor;

    Abstract : Infertility affects 15% of reproductive-aged couples. The milieu surrounding the growing embryo is of outmost importance, and should be optimised during in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Many biological processes, such as angiogenesis, coagulation, and immune processes need to be well regulated for a pregnancy to occur and progress normally. READ MORE

  3. 13. GM-CSF. A regulator of pre-implantation embryo development

    Author : Cecilia Sjöblom; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : GM-CSF blastocyst embryo culture cytokine growth factor GM-CSF receptor glucose transport apoptosis;

    Abstract : GM-CSF is a multifunctional cytokine expressed in abundance in the female reproductive tract during early pregnancy. We have investigated the regulatory influence of GM-CSF in development of pre-implantation mouse and human embryos. READ MORE

  4. 14. Genetic Sex Differences in Early Human Neuronal Development : An Investigation in Embryo Tissue and Embryonic Stem Cells

    Author : Philipp Pottmeier; Elena Jazin; Armin Raznahan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sex chromosome; gametolog; x y homolog; male; female; sex differences; sex bias; embryonic stem cells; neurodevelopment; neuronal differentiation; neural stem cells; genetics; neurodevelopmental disorders; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Organismal Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär organismbiologi; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Abstract : Sex differences in the human body affect many different organs and tissues, some of them have an effect on the human brain and its development. In the developing nervous system, sex differences can bias the number or functionality of neurons, glial cells or synapses. As a result, neural networks might develop with a sex-specific bias. 5. 15. The Human Y chromosome and its role in the developing male nervous system

    Author : Martin M. Johansson; David Skuse; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MSY; sex differences; CNV; SNP; palindrome; palindromes; gr gr duplication; gr gr deletion; b2 b3 deletion; b2 b3 duplication; blue-grey duplication; blue-grey like duplication; IR2; U3; STS; AZFa; AZFb; AZFc; Olivary nucleus; Medulla oblongata; spinal cord; white matter; Affymetrix 6.0; embryo; embryonal; haplogroup; haplogroups; R1a; R1b; R-M207; E-M96; I-M170; J-M304; G-M201; Ashkenazi; Bolivian; Chinese; SNP array; padlock probing; AMY-tree; Biologi med inriktning mot zoologisk utvecklingsbiologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Development;

    Abstract : Recent research demonstrated that besides a role in sex determination and male fertility, the Y chromosome is involved in additional functions including prostate cancer, sex-specific effects on the brain and behaviour, graft-versus-host disease, nociception, aggression and autoimmune diseases. The results presented in this thesis include an analysis of sex-biased genes encoded on the X and Y chromosomes of rodents. READ MORE
