  1. 1. Intestinal Gene Expression Profiling and Fatty Acid Responses to a High-fat Diet

    Author : Jonathan Cedernaes; Helgi B Schiöth; Robert Fredriksson; Anders Jacobsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adhesion GPCR; delta-5 desaturase; delta-6 desaturase; desaturase index; Diet-induced obesity; estimated desaturase activity; fatty acid composition; gas chromatography; gastrointestinal tract; G-protein coupled receptor; high-fat diet; intestine; linoleic acid; liver; mRNA expression; palmitoleic acid; plasma; phospholipids; proximodistal; RT-qPCR; solute carrier; SCD-1; SCD-16; SCD-18; stearoyl-CoA desaturase; subcutaneous adipose tissue; subsection; triacylglycerols.; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik; Nutrition; Nutrition; Näringslära; Nutrition;

    Abstract : The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) regulates nutrient uptake, secretes hormones and has a crucial gut flora and enteric nervous system. Of relevance for these functions are the G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and the solute carriers (SLCs). READ MORE

  2. 2. Role of Lipids in the fate of organochlorine compounds in Aquatic Ecosystems

    Author : Göran Ewald; LUCSUS; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrobiology; biotransport; redistribution; bioaccumulation; extraction; ecological persistence; chlorinated fatty acids; DDT; PCB; organic pollutants; Lipids; triacylglycerols; phospholipids; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Abstract : Both results of laboratory experiments and material collected in the field have shown the lipid composition in organisms to have a significant effect on the bioaccumulation of pollutants and on the lipid steady-state concentrations of pollutants there. The redistribution of persistent organic pollutants which occurs in organisms as a consequence of the depletion of lipid depot, was studied in a population of migrating Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka). 3. 3. Identification and imaging of lipids in tissues using TOF-SIMS

    Author : Ylva Magnusson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : mass spectrometry; lipids; fatty acids; diacylglycerols; triacylglycerols; TOF-SIMS; adipose tissue; aortic wall; skeletal muscle; obesity; principal component analysis;

    Abstract : Introduction: Normal lipid metabolism in the adipose tissue, skeletal muscle and aortic wall is important for the physiological function of these tissues. Dyslipidemia that is often associated with intake of high energy diet and sedentary lifestyles can lead to the development of insulin resistance and cardiovascular diseases. READ MORE

  4. 4. Lipase-catalyzed production of structured triacylglycerols

    Author : Ariana Causevic; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structured lipids; Lipase; Acyl migration; Immobilization; Lipid analysis; Transesterification; Water activity;

    Abstract : Vegetable oils and fats are major energy sources but also play an essential part in the physical and chemical properties of food products. The current change in the climate is affecting harvest yields, leading to a shortage and increased prices of raw materials that are difficult to replace. READ MORE

  5. 5. Analysis of lipids by supercritical fluid chromatography

    Author : Mustafa Demirbüker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis is described the development of new metods for the analysis of triacylglycerols and fatty acid methyl esters by supercritical fluid chromatography. Packed micro columns have been utilized for SFC and the properties of different types of packing materials have been evaluated. READ MORE
