  1. 1. Delayed Cell Death after Traumatic Brain Injury : Role of Reactive Oxygen Species

    Author : Fredrik Clausen; Lars Hillered; Tiit Mathiesen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Traumatic Brain Injury; Reactive oxygen species; Fluid percussion injury; Controlled cortical impact; weight drop injury; Extracellular-signal regulated kinase; apoptosis; free radical scavenging; morphology; functional outcome; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Abstract : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability TBI survivors often suffer from severe disturbances of cognition, memory and emotions. Improving the treatment is of great importance, but as of yet no specific neuroprotective treatment has been found. READ MORE

  2. 2. Diabetes-induced Alterations in Renal Microcirculation and Metabolism

    Author : Fredrik Palm; Per Liss; Peter Hansell; Per-Ola Carlsson; Gerald DiBona; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; diabetes mellitus; kidney; nephropathy; oxygen tension; haemodynamic; nitric oxide; oxygen consumption; radical oxygen species; polyol pathway; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Diabetes-induced renal complications, i.e. diabetes nephropathy, are a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The exact mechanism mediating the negative influence of hyperglycaemia on renal function is unclear, although several hypotheses have been postulated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Radical aspects on arthritis : the role of neutrophil generation of nitric oxide and superoxide in inflammatory conditions

    Author : Jan Cedergren; Thomas Skogh; Tommy Sundqvist; Tony Forslund; Ingrid Lundberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; reactive oxygen species; arthritis; NOS; NO; arginase; integrins; Internal medicine; Invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : The polymorphonuclear neutrophil granulocytes (neutrophils) are gaining renewed interest regarding their involvement in chronic inflammatory disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Besides phagocytic and destructive capabilities, neutrophils have regulatory roles, e.g. by influencing responses from dendritic cells and lymphocytes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Surface reactions on metallic nanoparticles : Ligand adsorption, metal release, and reactive oxygen species generation

    Author : Amanda Kessler; Inger Odnevall; Tommy Nylander; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; metallic nanoparticles; ROS; reactive oxygen species; metal release; ligand adsorption; corrosion; Fenton like Haber Weiss reactions; metalliska nanopartiklar; ROS; reaktiva syreradikaler; metallfrisättning; adsorption; korrosion; Fenton lika Haber Weiss reaktioner; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Humans are exposed daily to metallic nanoparticles (Me NPs) from multiple sources which can have both natural and anthropogenic origins. Such exposures take place via different routes including inhalation and skin contact and may result in adverse health effects. READ MORE

  5. 5. Redox effects on neutrophils in wound healing conducted by wound dressings and hyperbaric oxygen

    Author : Herman Sahlin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : neutrophil granulocyte; wound healing; wound dressing; reactive oxygen species; NO; hyperbaric oxygen; bacterial killing;

    Abstract : The increased influx of neutrophils into chronic wounds results in increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), nitric oxide (NO) and lipid peroxidation products (LPP), as well as a ROS-induced increase in protease levels. The NO and LPP impair the respiratory burst response of the neutrophils and reduce their capacity to kill bacteria and digest debris. READ MORE
