  1. 1. Lake sediment as environmental archive : natural and anthropogenic influence on the chronology of trace elements

    Author : Evastina Grahn; Stefan Karlsson; Anders Düker; Bo Bergbäck; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lake sediment; environmental pollution; trace elements; chronology; diagenesis; Ag; Be; Ga; In; Pb; Sb; Tl; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is the historical pollution of some seldom-monitored trace elements (SMTEs; Ag, Be, Ga, In, Sb and Tl) that have been involuntarily released for several thousands of years but whose usage have increased during the industrial era. Sediment cores from four rural lakes in a south to north transect in central Sweden, and two urban lakes have been used as environmental archives for chronological studies. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fate of Trace Elements in Thermochemical Conversion of Waste Fuels Using Oxygen Carriers

    Author : Ivana Stanicic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxygen Carrier Aided Combustion; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; Ash interaction; Chemical Looping Technologies; Thermodynamic Calculations; Waste; Oxygen Carriers; Ilmenite; Trace Elements;

    Abstract : The metals zinc, copper and lead are amongst the more abundant trace elements in waste fuels. The fate of these elements is important to study because they can affect the thermochemical conversion process and end up in ashes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Distribution and chemical association of trace elements in incinerator residues and mining waste from a leaching perspective

    Author : Naeem Saqib; Mattias Bäckström; Stefan Karlsson; William Mayes; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; trace elements; partitioning; fly ash; bottom ash; speciation; association; risk assessment; wood waste; incineration; mining waste; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Incineration is a mainstream strategy for solid waste management in Sweden and all over the world. Improved knowledge and understanding about the distribution of trace elements (in ashes) during incineration, and how trace element partitioning respond to the changes in waste composition, are important in terms of combustion process optimization and plant efficiency. 4. 4. Trace metal speciation in the Baltic sea

    Author : Johan Gelting; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : Physicochemical speciation of metals in natural waters is very important for understanding their distribution, mobility, bioavailability and toxicity. To be able to understand the behaviour of an aqueous element and the transformation between chemical and physical species, there is a need for reliable methods that enable measurements of specific fractions of metals. 5. 5. Method development for the analysis of complex samples with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry

    Author : Marcus Korvela; Jean Pettersson; Ulf Lindh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ICP-MS; trace elements; complex matrix.;

    Abstract : In this thesis the development of methods for handling the problems associated with analyzing trace elements in complex matrixes using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is presented. Trace elements such as Cu, Fe, Se, and Zn, to name a few, do play important roles in different organisms. READ MORE
