1. From Macromolecular Design to Supramolecular Self-assembly
Abstract : Advancements in drug delivery have enabled a wider array of prevention, control and treatment of diseases such as cancer. Drug delivery systems have the possibility of encapsulating drugs with low solubility, delivering them to specific locations in the body as well as obtaining a controlled and sustained drug release. 2. Mixed Block Copolymer Solutions: Self-Assembly and Interactions
Abstract : This thesis incorporates studies on the aqueous systems of two types of thermoresponsive amphiphilic block copolymers; a series of nonionic triblock copolymers comprising blocks of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO) denoted as PEO-PPO-PEO block copolymers, and a series of ionic diblock copolymers consisting of one charged block and one block of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAM). Various techniques, such as dynamic and static light scattering (DLS and SLS), small angle X-ray and neutron scattering (SAXS and SANS), high sensitivity differential scanning calorimetry (HSDSC), turbidimetry, electrophoretic mobility measurements, and two-dimensional proton NMR nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (2D 1H NMR NOESY), were applied to study these block copolymer systems. 3. Magnetically governed self-assembly of soft matter : A look into interfacial layering, crystallization and percolation
Abstract : Self-organisation is the key route for assembling colloidal particles into well-defined structures. Decisive for this are the interactions between the constituents, which are amongst others steric, electrostatic or magnetic. READ MORE

4. Antibacterial materials for wound care applications utilizing antimicrobial peptides
Abstract : The spread of antibiotic resistance among bacteria has shown that the development of alternative treatments of infections is of vital importance. This thesis has looked at one potential candidate, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), as an alternative or compliment to traditional antibiotics. READ MORE

5. Functional Cyclic Carbonate Monomers and Polycarbonates : Synthesis and Biomaterials Applications
Abstract : The present work describes a selection of strategies for the synthesis of functional aliphatic polycarbonates. Using an end-group functionalization strategy, a series of DNA-binding cationic poly(trimethylene carbonate)s was synthesized for application as vectors for non-viral gene delivery. READ MORE
