  2. 2. Materials analysis using MeV-ions: fundamental challenges and in-situ applications

    Author : Karim-Alexandros Kantre; Daniel Primetzhofer; Hans-Christian Hofsäss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; in-situ characterization; ion beam analysis; heavy ions; reactive thin film growth; materials modification; yttrium oxyhydrides; fuel retention;

    Abstract : The interaction of energetic ions with matter is highly relevant for a wide range of applications. Amongst them, material characterization employing ion beams is widely used due to its capability of high-resolution composition depth profiling. READ MORE

  3. 3. ZrN based Nanostructured Hard Coatings : Structure-Property Relationship

    Author : Phani Kumar Yalamanchili; Magnus Odén; Naureen Ghafoor; Emilio Jiménez-Piqué; Jon Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Ever since the hard coatings have been introduced, there has been a constant push for better mechanical properties, which motivates for deeper understanding of the microstructure-mechanical properties correlation. The aim of this thesis is to extend the knowledge on how microstructural variation influences the deformation, fracture and wear behavior of ZrN based nanostructured coatings. READ MORE

  4. 4. Silicon Nanowires for Biomolecule Detection

    Author : Niklas Elfström; Jan Linnros; Mark Reed; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik;

    Abstract : Starting from silicon on insulator (SOI) material, with a top silicon layer thickness of 100 nm, silicon nanowires were fabricated in a top down approach using electron beam (e-beam) lithography and subsequent eactive ion etching (RIE) and oxidation. Nanowires as narrow as 30 nm could be achieved. READ MORE

  5. 5. Dynamics and Applications of Long Josephson Junctions

    Author : Yongming Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The first object of this work is to theoretically study the effects of tunnel junction parameters on flux-flow Josephson oscillators (FFOs) by numerical simulation and to experimentally study the rf properties of FFOs by integrating them together with an SIS (superconductor-insulator-superconductor) mixer/detector on a chip. By using a CAD modeled integrated sub-mm wave receiver, the composite linewidth of two FFOs was measured to be less than 2. READ MORE
