  1. 1. TGFβ and LXR signaling in hepatocellular carcinoma

    Author : Claudia Bellomo; Aristidis Moustakas; Lars Holmgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hepatocellular Carcinoma; high-throughput imaging; small molecules; epithelial plasticity; LXR; Snail; TGFβ; tumor suppression; reactive oxygen species; cancer-associated fibroblast; myofibroblast; Smad3; αSMA;

    Abstract : Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most prevalent cancer types in the Western world and in the Asia-pacific regions, with its incidence expected to rise up to 22 million cases till 2020. Hepatocellular carcinoma etiology is mainly due to hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) infections, and to a lesser extent it is determined by the development of alcohol-driven cirrhosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). 2. 2. Interactions between the stroma and thyroid epithelial cells of normal and malignant origin

    Author : Thérèse Dahlman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Thyroid gland; carcinoma; collagen type I; EGF; TGF-b1; interaction; integrins; E-cadherin; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Endocrine and locally produced factors as well as interactions between epithelial cells and the stroma important in the control of growth and function of the thyroid gland. In this study, the effects of, and mechanism(s) for, such cross-talk under some normal and pathological conditions were investigated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulatory Effects of TGF-β Superfamily Members on Normal and Neoplastic Thyroid Epithelial Cells

    Author : Åsa Franzén; Paschalis Sideras; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; activin; BMP; cadherin; carcinoma; cell cycle arrest; dedifferentiation; EGF; growth inhibition; invasion; Smad; TGF-β; thyroid; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Thyroid growth and function is partly regulated by growth factors binding to receptors on the cell surface. In the present thesis, the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily members have been studied for their role in regulation of growth and differentiation of both normal and neoplastic thyroid epithelial cells. 4. 4. p63 and epithelial homeostasis : studies of p63 under normal, hyper-proliferative and malignant conditions

    Author : Xiaolian Gu; Karin Nylander; Antonio Costanzo; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; p63; psoriasis; SCCHN; epithelium; homeostasis; Pathology; Patologi; patologi; Pathology;

    Abstract : Background: The p63 gene is a member of the p53 transcription factor family and can produce six different proteins using two promoters and differential splicing. Expression of p63 is required for proper formation of epithelial tissues. READ MORE
