  1. 1. Structural and functional properties of transthyretin

    Author : Anders Karlsson; A. Elisabeth Sauer-Eriksson; Salam Al-Karadaghi; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transthyretin; Amyloidosis; X-ray crystallography; Protein structure; Protein; Structural biology; Strukturbiologi;

    Abstract : The hereditary transthyretin (TTR) amyloidoses are rare, and in severe cases, fatal disorders caused by mutations in the TTR gene. The clinical picture is diverse, involving neuropathies and myopathies, and mainly depends on the causative mutation and the sites and rates of amyloid deposition. READ MORE

  2. 2. Transition Metal Hydride Complexes and Hydrogenated Gallium Clusters : Synthesis and Structural Properties

    Author : Henrik Fahlquist; Dag Noréus; Maximilian Fichtner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metal hydrides; Solid state Synthesis; X-ray diffraction; Neutron Scattering; strukturkemi; Structural Chemistry;

    Abstract : Synthesis and structural characterisation of metal hydrides in two important systems are presented. The first system presented is low valent cobalt and nickel complex hydrides with the compositions BaMg5Co2H10, RbMg5CoNiH10, SrMg2CoH7and Sr4Mg4Co3H19 featuring nickel with oxidation state of 0 and cobalt with oxidation state +I and -I. Abstract : A large number of proteins require certain metals to stabilize their structures or to function properly. About one third of all proteins in the Protein Data Bank (PDB) contain metals and it is estimated that approximately the same proportion of all proteins are metalloproteins. READ MORE
