  1. 1. Remobilization of terrestrial carbon across temporal and spatial scales deduced from the Arctic Ocean sediment record

    Author : Jannik Martens; Örjan Gustafsson; Birgit Wild; Richard Pancost; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; climate change; permafrost; carbon; paleoclimate; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Arctic warming is expected to trigger large-scale environmental change including remobilization of terrestrial organic carbon (terrOC). Permafrost and peatland systems contain more than twice as much carbon as the atmosphere, and may upon destabilization expose large amounts of their carbon to microbial decomposition and release climate-forcing greenhouse gases (GHG). 2. 2. Mapping the Huntington's disease process using cerebrospinal fluid analysis

    Author : Valter Niemelä; Anne-Marie Landtblom; Dag Nyholm; Jimmy Sundblom; Edward Wild; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Neurodegeneration; Huntingtons disease; Neurogenetics; Neuroinflammation; Neurofilament light; tau; Proenkephalin; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Abstract : Huntington's disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder, caused by a CAG-repeat expansion in the HTT-gene. Today there are no disease-modifying therapies (DMTs), but several promising clinical trials are underway, including therapies that reduce mutant huntingtin expression. READ MORE

  3. 3. Where are the world’s disease patterns heading? : The challenges of epidemiological transition

    Author : Ailiana Santosa; Peter Byass; Ulf Högberg; Joacim Rocklöv; Sarah Wild; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiological transition; premature mortality; non-communicable disease; risk factors; Sweden; low-and middle-income countries; INDEPTH Network; Västerbotten Intervention Programme; Public health; folkhälsa;

    Abstract : INTRODUCTION: Epidemiological transition theory, first postulated by Omran in 1971, provides a useful framework for understanding cause-specific mortality changes and may contribute usefully to predictions about cause-specific mortality. However, understandings of mortality transitions and associated epidemiological changes remain poorly defined for public health practitioners due to lack of evidence from low- and middle-income countries. 4. 4. Wild vegetables and micronutrient nutrition : Studies on the significance of wild vegetables in women's diets in Vietnam

    Author : Britta M. Ogle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Edible wild plants; gathered vegetables; Vietnam; micronutrients; rapid appraisal; dietary assessment; nutrition status; chemical analysis; food diversity; folate; medicinal foods; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Nutrition; näringslära;

    Abstract : The principal aim has been to investigate the contemporary role and importance of edible wild plants in the diets of women in different agro-ecological regions of Vietnam. Field studies were undertaken in four villages in the Mekong Delta (MD) and the Central Highlands (CH) in 1995-1999. READ MORE

  5. 5. Influenza A virus in wild birds
