  1. 1. Genetic interaction between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

    University dissertation from Haiyan Li, Wallenberg Laboratory ing 46, Malmö University Hospital, 20502 Malmö, Sweden

    Author : Haiyan Li; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; IDDM2.; Insulin gene VNTR; HLA; IDDM1; mixed type 1 2; Mixed type 1 type 2 diabetes families; LADA; GADabs; Autoantibodies against GAD65; Type 1 diabetes; Type 2 diabetes; diabetology; secreting systems; sekretion; diabetologi; Endokrinologi;

    Abstract : There are two major types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Similarly characterized by hyperglycaemia and long term micro- and macrovascular complications, type 1 and type 2 diabetes have different underlying pathophysiologic processes. In Scandinavia, type 1 diabetes is common; type 2 diabetes accounts for 85% of all cases with diabetes. READ MORE

    Abstract : Pharmacometric modelling is widely used in many aspects related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), for instance in the anti-diabetes drug development, and in quantifying the disease progression of T2DM.The aim of this thesis were to improve the design of early phase anti-diabetes drug development studies with the focus on the power to identify mechanism of drug action (MoA), and to characterize and quantify the progression from prediabetes to overt diabetes, both the natural progression and the progression with diet and exercise interventions, using pharmacometrics modelling. 3. 3. Congenital Heart Disease, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

    University dissertation from Göteborgs universitet

    Author : Anna Björk; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2020]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Congenital Heart Disease; Diabetes Mellitus; Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus; Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus; Mortality; Morbidity;

    Abstract : Worldwide, 1% of all live born children are born with a congenital heart disease (CHD) and currently >95% reach adulthood due to better diagnostics and medical care. At the same time, Diabetes Mellitus (DM), type 1 (T1DM) and type 2 (T2DM), is increasing worldwide. READ MORE

  4. 4. Antigen-specific islet antibodies: prediction of beta cell failure and differentiation between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

    University dissertation from Henrik Borg, Wallenberg Laboratory, Entrance 46 2nd floor, Malmö University Hospital, SE-205 02 Malmö, Sweden

    Author : Henrik Borg; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; Endocrinology; seropositive; seronegative; slowly-progressive; Type 2; Type 1; classification; IA-2A; IA-2; GADA; GAD; ICA; islet antibodies; C-peptide; beta cell function; diabetes mellitus; adult-onset; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GADA), protein tyrosine-phosphatase-like protein (IAÐ2A), and/or pancreatic islet cells (ICA) are autoimmune markers usually present at diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is therefore in general believed to be caused by an immune-mediated beta cell destruction. READ MORE

  5. 5. Search for MODY and Type 2 diabetes genes

    University dissertation from Henrik Borg, Wallenberg Laboratory, Entrance 46 2nd floor, Malmö University Hospital, SE-205 02 Malmö, Sweden

    Author : Markku Lehto; [1999]

    Abstract : Diabetes is a heterogeneous disease influenced by both environmental and genetic factors. Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is considered as a subform of Type 2 diabetes, which is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion and expressed at childhood or early adult life. READ MORE
